PROJECTS IN THE WORKS
Okay, hi again! It’s Will Presley again at Central City Auto Parts. I have been talking about the projects that I have going, but have not told you about them so I thought I would take some time and bring you up to speed on what I am working on. A very important project of mine is the hanging of the P-51 Mustang from the ceiling in the shop. I want to completely restore (non-flying) and hang it from the ceiling in the show room. More importantly, I wanted to dedicate it to flyers or soldiers of WW 2. Perhaps when we hang it we could invite some of them here.
Okay, now you want to know where I got a million dollar P-51. Well, it is an exact 3/4 replica of a P-51, and yes it was flying when I got it. From a distance (really close) it looks just like the real thing. I wanted a real one but did not have deep enough pockets, plus I am running out of ceiling height. Off the subject a little bit, I just finished reading The Last Fighter Pilot. A very good read about what the young men of WW 2 did for our country. If you have teenage children or grandchildren it is a great book for them to read. We all need to remember what these people went thru, and died for, so we have the freedom to do what we do today.
The next project in the works is an F-650 pickup that I am building. Now if you are a man from Texas like me, you know bigger is better. Maybe not just from Texas. Well, the cheapest one I could buy was $60,000.00 and was not quite what I wanted, closer to $100,000.00. So I started out with a moving van truck with a 35’ box on it and only 2 doors. Did I mention I wanted 4 doors. It had been abandoned with no engine or transmission. So I will shorten it 15’, add 2 doors, build a Cummins diesel engine and an Allison transmission plus put a really nice interior in so my wife will ride with me and let me start other projects.
Of course you remember the 1949 Ford convertible that my real dad gave me that got lost and I never got to drive the second time. Well, I am driving one now but have a lot of work before it will be just like my dad and I used to have.
Work is still ongoing on the carnival shooting gallery and I will have a new update soon. There are a few other projects running around in my brain but for now this will keep me busy.
